Multimedia Artifact

Rubric for Multimedia Artifact

1.      Select a significant purpose typical of your discipline/grade level.

My name is:  Quinn Blackley

My content area/discipline is:  English

The grade level I plan to teach is:  Middle or High School (6-12)

The typical educational purpose I will address is:  Publicizing a student-run school writing center

        Some examples are:

  • Advertise an athletic clinic, club, event, or special program
  • Advocate for the value of studying your content area
  • Communicate with parents
  • Develop materials and resources for parents, school staff, or professional development
  • Document the contributions of an individual or program to the school or community
  • Fundraise for arts, athletics, clubs, electives, or special programs and events
  • Increase enrollment and participation in elective courses, school activities, clubs, or programs
  • Inform the community about exceptional students, teachers, programs, or school needs
  • Promote a community partnership, professional initiative, resource program, or school activity
  • Provide content-related instruction, scaffolding, or tutorials for students
  • Recruit parent volunteers
  • Etc.

My reason for choosing this purpose is:  In addition to working as a writing consultant at BYU's Research and Writing Center, I currently volunteer as an editor and writer mentor for the Journal of Peer Tutoring in Secondary Schools (JPTSS). JPTSS is a journal affiliated with the Secondary Schools Writing Center Association. In the future, I would like to start a SSWCA-supported writing center in a secondary school in Alaska.

  • Poster
  • Public Service Announcement
  • Science Project
  • Simulation

4.      Select a tool to create the artifact.  The tool(s) I will use: I used a graphic design website called Canva.

5.      Create the artifact, ensuring it fulfills intended purposes.

6)  What have you done to try to evaluate sources for bias and avoid biased portrayals of diverse identities?  Why is this important? I begun by looking at real advertisement secondary schools have put out to publicize their own writing centers to get an idea of the necessary information to include. Because I plan to one day teach in near Anchorage, Alaska, which has a very diverse student population, I chose to feature an animation of a young woman of Color on the poster as a form of appropriate student body representation—she is simply holding a pencil so I don’t feel that this would be any kind of biased portrayal of diverse identities.

Comments

  1. You're design is so clean cut and professional! It also catches the eye which helps grabs students attentions. I like how you provided sufficient info but not too much to where it overcrowds the entire poster--which would make it chaotic to the eye. I like how you gave the option of the QR code to sign up for appointments. Most teachers probably would put the website but I like that you did that.
